What is counselling?

Counselling is a research-based form of talk therapy that takes place in a private space to explore personal thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It can help provide education, understanding and a space to process tough emotions.

What types of issues does Bluesky Mind Studio address?

Counselling can benefit people of all ages and backgrounds who are struggling with a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, relationship problems, work-related issues, addiction, abuse, trauma and others.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, counselling is confidential. Counsellors are bound by ethical guidelines and laws to keep your information private. However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, that your counsellor will clarify with you in the first session

What can I expect during a counselling session?

During a counselling session, you will talk with a therapist in a private and confidential setting. The therapist is trained to help you share and address any difficult, disturbing or complex thoughts. They will listen to you and help you to take steps towards better wellbeing. They may also provide you with information and resources to help you cope with your situation.

How long does a counselling session typically last?

Sessions usually last 60 minutes and occur on a frequency of once a week or fortnight. We try to suit your schedule and encourage consistency for best results

What qualifications and experience do your counsellors have?

Our counsellors have a master’s degree in either psychology, counselling or social work and up to date registration in their respective licensing bodies (i.e. AHPRA, ACA or PACFA and AASW)

Do you offer counselling for specific demographics?

People from diverse demographics, including but not limited to marginalized communities, individuals experiencing life transitions, those with mental health disorders, and those facing trauma, can benefit significantly from counselling. We offer counselling to all people aged 15+.

How do I know if I've found the right counsellor for me?

A good fit with your counsellor means you feel comfortable sharing about your issues, understood, and respected. A good counsellor also excels in creating a safe environment to encourage growth by challenging your thoughts and beliefs in a respectful manner.

How do I prepare for my first counselling session?

To prepare for your first counselling session, take some time to reflect on your goals and concerns, jot down any questions you have for the counsellor, and approach the session with an open mind and willingness to engage in the therapeutic process.

What if I have an emergency or crisis situation outside of regular counselling hours?

Please contact 000 or 112 if you are experiencing overwhelming mental health distress or facing a life-threatening emergency to receive immediate assistance. Bluesky Mind Studio is not an emergency services provider.
